Oberoi Resort
Al Zorah, Ajman · 2017
The project was designed entirely by Piero Lissoni's team in Milan. He called me himself to work as local architect: on site I was their eyes. Between the client, the architect and the hotel operator there were three different priorities in the same room — the architect wanted only the specified Italian pieces, the developer wanted the price point, the operator wanted it to work as a hotel. My job was in the middle of the three, coordinating and keeping the thing moving.
Living Divani seating and Flos lighting, from the specification drawn in Milan. Brass-clad walls and full-height brass pivot doors set against dark timber; a bar in deep blue lacquer behind a terracotta brick screen; rattan dining chairs under slatted wood ceilings — and in the bathrooms, a patchwork of blue-and-white maiolica behind black steel vanities.
