Corporate Office
Business Bay, Dubai · 2019
I took the floor as shell and core. The client wanted an open plan, but with every office closed and glazed — minimal, sober, built from materials that would still look right in ten years. I kept the pantry and the washrooms in a single block at the centre, so the perimeter stayed free for the offices and the light.
The floor is a continuous pale grey resin under an exposed black ceiling, and a curved glass-block wall wraps the meeting room. Hexagonal concrete tiles by Kaza Concrete on the walls, Artemide and Flos lighting, Cea fittings. The executive and staff furniture is Herman Miller throughout, except the CEO's own office: he chose Poliflex, close to Hermès in quality and in the way it feels, and asked for as much of the room as possible to be made in Italy. The garden wall at the entrance needed its own irrigation system — in the tower the windows do not open.
