Villa in Al Barari

Al Barari, Dubai · 2011

Poolside terrace with a covered cabana and palm trees, Al Barari Villa, Al Barari, Dubai

The house was an empty box: off-white walls, no furniture, no colour in it anywhere. The work was pure interior decoration — furniture, colours, wallpapers, materials — and I did what I usually do, which is build contrast and put the colour back. The client is a bridal designer: she wanted every bedroom in colour and the shared rooms white, the way her atelier is.

Travertine floors under dark timber frames, damask wallpapers, crystal chandeliers, and deep white sofas — with pieces from Ralph Lauren Home indoors and, by the pool, sculptural outdoor furniture by Serralunga. It is the only project where nothing had to be changed along the way: what she wanted and what I would have proposed were the same.
